On December 3, 2009, the GFSIS and Georgian Security Analysis Center (GSAC) hosted a public seminar, “Afghanistan: Why and How.” The chairman of the seminar was Professor Alexander Rondeli, President, GFSIS. The speakers were COL Matthew Brand, United States Defense Attaché, H. E. Eric Fournier, Ambassador of France to Georgia, Mr. Niloloz Vashakidze, Deputy Minister of Defense of Georgia and Ambassador David J. Smith, Director, GSAC.

The panel discussion was about the current situation in Afghanistan. The speakers expressed different views toward the issue. The main questions were: why the allied forces are today in Afghanistan? What the main reasons and how are they going to deal with the created situation?

After the presentations, there was ample questioning and discussion. Many people were interested in the subject.  The room was comprised of people from the Government, NGOs, foreign diplomats and foreign experts. “Chatham House rules” applied.
